The Secret to Lying by Todd Mitchell

Until James transfers to a new private school, ASMA, it is easy for him to fade into the background. His first day at ASMA, James starts telling lies about how he was a street fighter, stole cars, and lived in the shadows of life. Soon, his life starts to spiral out of control as it becomes harder to separate lies from reality and his dreams haunt him in the daytime.
